HKF WAFM awards Haku Collective a MELE MUSIC EDUCATION GRANT

Haku Collective was awarded a Mele Music Education Grant to bring to a FREE MeleCraft Music Mentorship Program to Maui

"The Henry Kapono Foundation (HKF), just as Kimie Miners MeleCraft program, are both committed to furthering Hawai'i’s music here at home and in the global arena.  We at the HKF are excited to sponsor Kimie’s vision, The MeleCraft program, as it reaches out to the Maui community empowering the future of Hawai'i’s diverse music culture to thrive in an ever growing world of possibilities.  Defining Hawai'i as a music destination." ~ Henry Kapono

Haku Collective offered FREE weekend workshops to the youth in Maui on April 12 & 13, that taught aspiring artists how to create quality music through an artistic approach, learning critical industry skills that empower self-awareness, healthy expression, executive thinking and resilience.

As a part of the We Are Friends Maui Fund and Community Outreach of Healing Through Music…HKF awarded the MeleCraft Program expansion to Maui.

Haku Collective is pleased to announce an expanded community program from her MeleCraft Bootcamp, dedicated to empowering young artists through a breakthrough mentorship series called, MELECRAFT MUSIC MENTORSHIP BY HAKU COLLECTIVE. Made possible in partnership with presenting sponsors: Maui County’s Office of Economic Development and The Henry Kapono Foundation, the free Maui mentorship program honors Hawaiian culture, language, business and essential life skills that support rising music makers to create a new sound grounded in sustainable artistic health. The MELECRAFT MUSIC MENTORSHIP program in Maui is also made possible with the support of University of Hawaii Maui College, University of Hawaii Maui College Institute of Hawaiian Music, Southwest Airlines and Nohoʻana Farm. Phase 2 planned for September 2024.

"We originally planned to bring our expanded MeleCraft program to Maui in 2023, but in light of the devastating wildfires, we made the respectful decision to pause and redirect all resources to address the immediate impact. The need for our MeleCraft program stems from the, at times, isolating struggles that Maui's youth and community have faced during this devastating time. Witnessing firsthand the power of music and how Hawaiʻi's artists have rallied to support Maui by raising funds and providing comfort, underscores why supporting our Maui community through the healing power of music is so crucial." - Kimié Miner
