In 2022, the HKF and University of Hawaiߵi’s Windward Community College Campus, partnered to create the Henry Kapono Foundation’s Hawaiian Music Scholarship Fund which launched for the 2023-24 Academic Year.
Applications for the Hawaiian Music Program are accepted through WCC.

In partnership with the University of Hawaiʻi Foundation (UHF), the University of Hawaiʻi (UH), and Windward Community College (WCC) Campus Music Program, The Henry Kapono Foundation (HKF) launched its first music scholarship awarded to 3 Full-Time 2023 students accepted by the Hawaiian Music Certificate Program at WCC.
This program is the HKF’s first official sponsored scholarship fund in support of HKF's Mission to Support & Empower Hawaiߵi’s Music Industry to Thrive through Programs, Education & Resources.

The second annual Makana Mele will be held on December 8, 2023 at the Paliku Theatre. This special fundraising concert for the Henry Kapono Foundation’s Hawaiian Music Scholarship at Windward Community College. Featuring Keola & Moana Beamer, Jeff Peterson, Ron Loo, & Hi'ikua.
The first annual Makana Mele was presented on December 5, 2022, The Hawaiian Music Program at Windward Community College held a concert showcasing program instructors Kamuela Kimokeo, Jeff Peterson, Raiatea Helm, Hawaiian Music Program Student Kapono Wong, and including special guest Henry Kapono. The concert raised over $12.,000 for the Henry Kapono Hawaiian Music Scholarship Fund.

The purpose of this Fund is to assist students pursuing higher music education at WCC through the Hawaiian Music Certificate Program as an avenue to better the lives of themselves and their families and develop the capacity for creating and furthering careers in music. Funds shall be used to aid in the costs of attendance (e.g. tuition, books, fees, etc.).

i. Students enrolled in the Hawaiian Music Certificate program as their major or secondary major.
ii. Satisfactory academic merit as demonstrated by a minimum GPA of 2.0.
iii. Must have enrolled in 6 Hawaiian Music Certificate program credits.

The HKF Hawaiian Music Scholarship Fund will offer partial scholarships for the cost of attendance, as noted. The selection WCC committee shall determine the number and amount of awards based on the guidelines and availability of funds.

Recipients shall be selected by a qualified committee appointed by the Chancellor of WCC.
