2024 Kani Ka Pila Talent Search winner, Rickey Kamai is an up-and-coming artist from Honolulu, Hawaiʻi, blending Hawaiian, island reggae, and country influences into a genre-bending sound all his own. With smooth vocals, heartfelt lyrics, and an undeniable stage presence, Rickey delivers performances that are both soulful and unforgettable.
Whether solo or backed by a full band, he leaves a lasting impression with a versatile set that flows effortlessly through pop, rock and roll, acoustic soul, and R&B. Rickey’s passion for music is as boundless as his drive to create something fresh and meaningful.
Raised in a musical family with deep ties to the legendary bands Hulili and The Palasades, he was immersed in Hawaiian melodies, church hymns, and a wide range of musical styles from a young age. His influences range from the sounds of Earth, Wind & Fire, Ray Charles, and Prince to the soulful guitar stylings of Stevie Ray Vaughan. These inspirations fuel a sound that fuses old-school and contemporary Hawaiian music with Top 40, R&B, and beyond.
Rickey has had the honor of sharing the stage with iconic names such as Henry Kapono, The Makaha Sons, and HiRisk Faktor, and has opened for Hawaiian music legend Ledward Kaapana and renowned Nuff Sedd.
A proud Hawaiian with a strong cultural foundation, Rickey draws from his heritage and the spirit of aloha to connect with people across generations. He is often styled with an aloha or collared shirt—reflecting both timeless style and deep island roots.
