2024 HKF Hawaiian Music Scholarship Benefit Concert - Makana Mele: Raiatea Helm Dec 11, 2024

The HKF and Windward Community College’s Hawai‘i Music Institute presented a special Henry Kapono Hawaiian Music Scholarship concert & fundraiser honoring the achievements of Raiatea Helm, who recently won seven Nā Hōkū Hanohano awards in 2023, including Album of the Year.

A full house, the concert showcased and All-Star Band including WCC music lecturer Jeff Peterson on Guitar, former Hawaiian music student Kapono Lopes on upright bass, Hawaiian Music Scholarship Director Dr. Kamuela Kimokeo on ‘ukulele, with performances featuring violin, steel guitar, upright bass, slack-key guitar and flute — a tribute to the music that shaped Hawaii’s cultural landscape.

Opening performances from Dr. Kamuela Kimokeo, his talented sons, and Kapono Lopes set the tone for an unforgettable evening, showcasing three generations of musical magic in Hawaiian music. The night will also feature special guest appearances by the legendary Jerry Santos and Henry Kapono, making it a true celebration of Hawaiʻi’s rich musical heritage.

ABOUT THE HKF HAWAIIAN MUSIC SCHOLARSHIP

In partnership with the University of Hawaiʻi Foundation (UHF), the University of Hawaiʻi (UH), and Windward Community College (WCC) Campus Music Program, The Henry Kapono Foundation (HKF) launched its first music scholarship awarded to 3 Full-Time 2023 students accepted by the Hawaiian Music Certificate Program at WCC.

This program is the HKF’s first official sponsored scholarship fund in support of HKF's Mission to Support & Empower Hawaiߵi’s Music Industry to Thrive through Programs, Education & Resources.
